Nikko Brat with hobby grade hop ups.
« on: November 25, 2011, 03:35:27 »
I picked this up in August for $1 @ a thrift shop. No remote & when I did find one that worked I discovered that the servo was shot. So I took some extra hobby stuff I had lying around threw it in. Runs like a champ. :)

beautiful. i didn't know a nikko chassis would accept a hobby servo or else i would have bid and won a nikko raider off ebay. that was actually the thing that stopped me from buying it since it didnt come with radio and was untested, all i could think about was would a servo fit and be abel to mount up. good to know.

Yeah dude, a lot of these older ones are pretty easy to mod. The servo's are virtually the same dimensions. I jus had to shave off the screw mounts from the sides.  They generally have  a decent amount of room for the other electronics as well. Good TX/RX set up is this:

as the RX is jus stupid small. It'll fit anywhere. Plus its 2.4

Nice work on the hobby convertion. I like that you kept the power switch. Too bad the brat does'nt use the 540 motor like the larger Nikko buggies. Now that you have a real ESC, are you goinng to install a mod motor?

i didn't know a nikko chassis would accept a hobby servo
The digital proportional Nikko's use a standard 10th scale size servo, just with out the mounts (and wire plug) like Atomika had said.

what esc did you use? any chance of a video of it running? I just won one off of ebay and was wondering what esc would be compatible with the stock motor. i guess probably a traxxas lx-2.5 would work since it's for 360 size motors.

That uses the same chassis as the radio shack black phantom 2, the nikko scorpion II and III.

which reminds me I forgot to post the phantom 2 truck I converted to a hobby car on the hobby conversion page. You should post yours on their too

It makes me wanna go bust mine out and throw in a 540

Nice, I have one of those and it still works. Maybe one day I'll convert mine.

I will be getting a xl-2.5 esc to use with a jrl stock car with the same motor so I guess it couldn't hurt to have the option of swapping it back and forth between the brat and the jrl.

I just got an Axial AE1 for a Tyco, it can handle 9.6v. It's about the size of the one pictured above.

No for that price I would snap it up if I didn't just get burned on the jrl and win a brat. I told my wife the brat is the last one and then I found that one. Right now things are super tight since my wife just got back to work for the school year.if it was listed a month or two later I could get it but right now food and gas money is more important. Not to mention I'm still saving for a motorcycle.

Hey tyco bandit king did you see this? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPER-rare-collectible-Nikko-Raider-battery-charger-RTR-only-one-on-Ebay-/120980121393?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item1c2afa2731 another one was listed too right after this one which made his comment as the only one kinda untrue. I'm going to try to win it but if the other one was still up I think my chances would have been better since there would be 2 to choose from.
