Title: Head's up turbo hopper mod's
Post by: turbohopper on March 20, 2011, 12:52:58
I picked up a Tyco heads up turbo hopper off of eBay recently just like the one I had when I was a kid. Have any of you here done or heard of any good upgrades that can be done to this car? Like suspension, servo???s or motors? Nothing too crazy, I mean I don't want to tear up the gears or anything.

Radio, servo & ESC all need to be installed as a set at the same time.

You can run the stock motor on a real ESC.
But you cant run a mod motor on the stock electronics.

My brother has an old RC plane. I guess I could look and see if any of those servos would easily work for the steering.

i used the hi tek mini servo in my bandit, it came with a bag of assorted steering pieces. wasnt but 15 or 20 bucks on ebay and worked good, although mine got broke pretty quick just because some 40+ mph wrecks. it is pretty easy to adapt it to the bandits steering pieces accorse im planning a ball studded steering link soon.

anyhow if you go this route which will only work if you use a hobby grade radio/reciever the servo fits in pretty easy, you could make a brace to actually screw it down but i just used 2 sided servo tape.....stuff is strong, but makes taking it apart pretty simple

Yup, I have 4 rc18 oil filled shocks and studs on the way. I'm not sure what radio/receiver to get.

im not sure how exactly you will make the front oil field shocks work, the back, will be simple to figure out, and most likeley use the original mounts with some modding, the front on the other hand i dont know, because on my bandit, it has a truck body which leaves plenty of room for the rc18 shock tower-i used the rear rc18 shock tower on the front of the bandit, does away with the weak stock spring arms, but with your hopper the body actually sits right where the shock tower would be screwed down, or over it anyway, im not sure that you can actually trim enuff of the body away without actually cutting the nose of the hopper body off in front, altho if you cant make that work with the hopper body, luckily tho, the bandits, eliminator bodies can be swapped onto your chassis if not.

Yeah, I might have to get a little creative with some JB weld. I will post some pic's when I get it done.
