Title: Watchman Movie
Post by: cinemax on July 19, 2008, 09:07:18
I've been looking forward to this film for over a decade now. It really is one of the best graphic novels ever written. The trailer looks awesome! If you're interested check it out the film's website.

This is one I've been waiting for as well, and yeah, so far it doesn't look disappointing.  Fingers super-crossed.  Should we plan on an opening weekend Nerdfestacular to see this one?

I heard Kevin Smith say that he saw a private screening of the film at ComiCon and that he was really impressed with how it's turning out.  Now, provided they don't chop the life out of it, I'm really excited to see it.

03-06-09 is the release date.  That's a Friday.  Anyone else interested in going opening night?

Among our group... "Who watches the Watchmen?" :)

I don't watch the Watchmen, but what I've heard and seen of it seem interesting, so pencil me in for it.

Dragon, I don't know if you're joking or not but it's a graphic novel. I can lend it to you if you want. I'm TOTALLY up for a opening night screening. I've been waiting for this film for decades.

I have seen a trailer for The Watchmen (while seeing The Dark Knight) and I remember hearing about The Watchmen before from both you and Chris. I wasn't sure if there was a TV series of it or something else to be watched. I'm interested in checking out the graphic novel, but I don't know when I'd have time to read it. Maybe at the end of December, after this semester is over.

I like the outfit that chick is wearing midway through the trailer...but other than that...it's fairly foreign to me and I have no interest.  Maybe when Dave buys it on Blu Ray...

Speaking of which. I purchased Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu Ray!! Very nice!  Also I have a remake of "This is Halloween" that I want you to listen to Dave.  It's by Marilyn Manson!

I'm prob. getting the blu-ray for X-Mas. I saw the Nightmare cover album in Target a few weeks ago. Is it any good?

Post by: Wyldwing on October 19, 2008, 10:05:58
I bought it...then decided to go out to the web and listen to a few tracks.  My kids didn't like ANYTHING except the "This is halloween" song.  So I went and purchased that MP3 for .15 and returned the album!

I'm sure I would have enjoyed the album...but I listed to that music with my kids...so if they told me to return it, I obliged.

Did you want to bring the fam over for dinner one night and do a Nightmare viewing?

I've seen some clips on the web, and I've also found some web comics so I can get somewhat familiar with it...pen me in!

I'm up for Watchmen.  Anyone willing to go opening weekend, or possibly the Tuesday evening after (03/10/09)?

I mention Tuesday evening as I've been told it's Dragon's best time to do anything these days.

I am up for multiple viewings, so either or both is good for me.

If I don't get a ton of homework assigned during Spring Break, March 10th would probably be a good time for me to go.

Next Friday, Watchman movie opens.
Anyone still interested in seeing it that weekend?
My time is kind of up in the air at the moment, just thought I'd bump the subject.

Tuesday may be good for me, I switch to my new shift, 8am to 5pm. Although I have heard the 'new' department has a lot of overtime on Monday and Tuesday. I may be able to plead out of it. I got an angle.

Okay, if the three of us are going, I'm thinking that theater near Wylder's house would be a good middle ground.

Any other suggestions?

Wyldwing, you in?

That AMC theater is fine with me. Do you know what times it will be playing?

You'll have to count me out on this one. My weekend is full.

Which theatre are we talking about going to?
If it's in pinellas county, I would prefer going to it right after work, since I work down there in Oldsmar.

The AMC Theater in Oldsmar/Clearwater area, near 19 on Tampa Rd. Probably the earliest I could get there is 6PM.

Just to clarify, you're out for the Weekend one but you're still good for Tuesday night, right?

That's right, Mac, you live up near Dragon... I was thinking about Cinemax, he's down in St. Pete.

Speaking of... Cinemax, are you in?  I know this is one of the big ones for you just from reading the top of the thread.  :)

Tuesday...a week from today?  In OLDSMAR?  Wow...you guys are making this VERY easy for me to say yes here...

I think I might be able to make it!

That's me.  Making it as easy as possible for as many people as possible.  Not an easy thing to do. 8)

It's Wendy's girls night out...so I am supposed to watch Hunter.

Is this something you think I can/should bring an 8 year old to see?  Or should I ask Wendy to reschedule?

I just found out that there is no class next week, so if we need to move it to Wednesday that's ok with me.

I work in Oldsmar and drive right past that theatre on my way home. I should be able to get out around 5:30pm Tuesday.
Count me in.
Of course just about any day of the week works for me, 'cept maybe Monday & Friday.

Wednesday sounds fine to me.

Cool. I'm sending a message to Dave to see if he's going to join us too.

(By the way, since our discussion was really just related to the Watchmen at this point, I merged most of the other discussion with this one. Sorry if there's any confusion. I'm just trying to reduce it.)

Wednesday, March 11th around 6pm works for me. I'll know more on Tuesday, but I should be able to make it.

I got a reply back from Dave saying that he's probably not going to make it on Wednesday.

Wednesday doesn't work.  I'm sorry.

Okay... have an alternative suggestion, Wylders?

I'd be fine with Thursday, if the other guys are.  From what I've gleaned from the previous posts, Mac said any day but Monday or Friday, and Dragon said he had the week off... I, of course, have no social life besides you guys.

Thursday is fine by me.
I spoke with someone that watched the Watchmen already.
Apparantly there is a scene with a little too much showing of big blue. I don't know the characters, but the general impression was they showed off his hardware, which may have been soft at the time.
Another note to keep in mind is that the movie is almost three hours long.  :o    about 160 minutes I hear.
Just a couple of non-spoiler factiods.

yeah, as I stated earlier in the post, I had intended to see it more than once, and I did go late friday night on the way home from the comedy performance.

There are prolonged scenes featuring giant blue genitals, and a graphic, although soft-core sex scene as well, all faithfully recreated from the original book.  I'm sure Wylders would aprove of the latter.

I'm personally not sure what happened in the last 20 minutes or so, because I did doze off.  Not because it was boring, but it was about 2am by that point.  It did however look like they changed one very key plot point for some unknown reason.  Maybe I missed the explanation, I don't know... ???

It's just that time of year...and I'm not a big Watchman fan anyway...AND, I'm watching my money.  A little tight right now.

Perhaps the latter 1/2 of April will be better for me!

Saw in on Sunday. I LOVED it. Waiting to see Dragon's reaction since he didn't read the book. Also would like to see what Wyldwing feels about it since he and I don't always see eye to eye.

I also have not read the story.
I'm good for today, Wednesday.
I will probably get out of work around 4pm.
What time is good? Are we still seeing it at Eastlake Woodlands AMC? They do have comfortable seats for a 3 hour movie.

Yes, Eastlake Woodlands AMC. I see that they have a 6:15 show today, which is probably the earliest one that I'd be able to get to. Are we planning to meet outside the ticket booth, or inside near the door to the movie?

I'll be there pretty early, so you can find me in the sports bar, in the same plaza, to the west of the theatre. I can meet you by the door to the movie if your pressed for time.

Considering that I'll probably get there very close to the start of the movie it would probably be best for me to meet you guys at the theater. I'll plan on meeting you inside by the door to the movie then.

I'll have my cell phone as well.  I can leave Lutz by 5pm, and getting to that area usually takes 45 minutes on the weekend.  Weekday traffic might make it right around 6.  The veterans expressway should help.1

A joyous time was had by all,   :-[ Well, by me anyway.
I enjoyed the movie, glad I knew up front it was almost three hours long.
Without giving too much away, I laughed at the funny parts, grinned during the sexy parts, cringed during the violent parts, and, yes, I cried during a sad part.
All in all, I left the theatre completely satisfied. I did not leave feeling like the end was a build up for a sequel, and the story ended with no questions left hanging.
A must see in the theatres, a definite buy on DVD, I'm even thinking of seeing in again in the theatres. That good.

Mac
 :) :)  ;D ;D :(
(two smiles for plot and action, two grins for more than normal sexy bits, and a sad face for wrenching my heart near the end)

Personally I liked the movie, but it's not one I'd buy. I wouldn't mind seeing it again though. The story was interesting and the action was pretty cool.
