OK fellas Ive got someone to make some 9.6v turbo bandit gears w/high on one side and low on the other just like factory for everyone who has stripped out low,,,, I'm going to buy 10 in case anybody else needs one down the line,,,, my question is i can ether get them in hard black delrin or any type of metal i want,,I'm thinking delrin because its much stronger than the injection molded white plastic stockers and wont be harder on the other parts in the rear end that are all plastic except the only metal gear in the gearbox is the one on the motor itself,,, i just cant make up my mind. any thoughts??
-
when you say metal, what kind of metal? id think brass would be good as its soft. but ultimately i agree with you. if youre not replacing all the gears it may be better to stick with a type of plastic. the delrin should last forever.
-
he could do brass,,alum or steel,,, i just wanted the strongest i could get without hurting any other components but yeah since the motor gear is brass (i think) id be afraid of brass on brass contact and you'd possibly have to keep cracking the case and oiling/greasing it with that and since it was built to be non serviceable i think the delrin would be the best bet thanks man
-
Do you know if the High and Low gears on the Bandit are the same as the Fast Traxx? If they are, I would love to get some black delrin ones from you. :)
Once you go black delrin, you never go back... delrin. :/
-
Lmfao!!!,,The fast traxx is 43/17/10 tooth correct??,ill match them up and get back with you once they get in my hands forsure
-
Yeah, 43/10 and 17 on the reverse. Keep me posted. I'm looking for 2.
-
Id be intersted in a dozen if they work in other tycos n not to expensive. Im always finding tyco rcs but they always have stripped gears. wonderin if you could have a list of what they would fit.
-
yeah ill just have to compile a list,,so any info on any ones people need would be appreciated,, i have them all but most are mint or new so I'm not about to start taking them apart, hell they don't even come out the boxes,,i just play with my bandit because its not boxed.so far i know the fast traxx and the bandit gears are the exact same size thanks to Ridiculawessome having his fast traxx broke down but different teeth numbers so I'm guessing it goes the same for all 9.6v's in that range like the eliminator, turbo hoppers, blaster etc. just different ratios,,someone correct me if I'm wrong because the only one i have torn down at the moment is my bandit so far i know
9.6v fast traxx gear is 43t w/10t L/17t H
9,6v turbo bandit gear is 45t w/9t L /12t H
-
Hmmm. Maybe someone here can enlighten me on this, but the more teeth a gear has the more work the motor has to do, and the slower the speed, right?
Any chance your friend can make the 43/10/17 as well? :/
-
close buddy,,,but im pretty sure the more teeth the more work the motor has to do is correct but at a higher top speed, say for example on the fast traxx 17t is the high side of the gear and the bandit's 12t is it's high side. the motor is working harder in high gear thats why the batt drains much quicker and yes he can i just need a broken or stripped fast traxx gear to send with my bandit one so i dont have to tear apart a totally mint fast traxx.
-
you know poptart, if these work out well and arent too expensive for you to purchase you should consider having gears for all the more popular tycos made up. you could sell em at a reasonable mark up for your time and maybe revive quite a few tycos along the way. you could be the go to guy for durable, replacement tyco gearing. i know ive stripped a couple of turbo hoppers low ranges myself. idve killed to come across ready to buy gears at the time. do any of the tycos share the same gears in the rearends? be nice to see what crosses with what.
-
yeah i love them so much I'm prob just gonna get 10 of each,,and that's what we're trying to figure out now,,i have them all but like i said i dont wanna open the boxes and take apart perfectly new tyco's we got the fast traxx and bandit covered,,if you have a broken down hopper or any other 9.6v and wanna give me the tooth count??,,that would be great
-
Papa Tart. Would be cool to get the ones for Fast Traxx made too out of black delrin. Need me to send you my stripped one? I'd kindly ask for it back tho. :/
-
i want these gears
-
Ridiculawesome yeah i will need your broken gear,,you can just stick it in a ziplock and a envelope and ill gladly send it back to you,,to start I'm gonna get 10 black delrin fast traxx gears and 10 bandit gears since those will be the only ones i have in my hand.were just going back and forth over price per unit since there not just reg spur gears were at $14 dollars per unit right now since there cluster gears basically 3 gears in one,,but ill get him down and get this done to where its worth it for all of us.as soon as i get him to a price point that's a little more reasonable ill pm you my address so you can send the ft gear ;D and CZ im on it buddy!!!
-
is this the place youre using? http://www.rushgears.com im saving this in case i ever do my edgerunner brushless conversion ive dreamed about. this could be a required upgrade. i think its awesome youre doing this and if i still had my old stripped rearends to donate to the cause i would. i encourage anyone who can spare any parts to the cause to do so. it would pay off for every tyco fan in the end.
-
thank you man i really appreciate that and no its not them they wanted,,,,,,,,,,,, wait for it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,$2500 !!! just to get started on my bandit gear, yes i just about choked on my phone. call em yourself you wont believe the sales rep says it with a straight face :o,,I'm guessing there for major to small company's that are buying thousands at a time.Ive been in contact with this guy Al http://gearsmade.com/ he's the one thats gonna do them for me
-
Yeah, keep fighting the good fight. I was looking to get some custom gears made for myself before I joined this forum. Glad to know I'm not the only one. Hope you get a good deal with the guy, cuz it'd be nice not having to worry about stripped gears ever again. Keep us posted. And for now, put me down for 2 FTs and 2 bandits. :)
-
oh wow, thats a little over the top :o i just saw the choice of materials, and minimum order and thought it might be it. well good on ya for finding someone who can do it reasonably.
-
Ridiculawesome i got you covered for two ft and two bandits !!!,, and yeah like i said where just going back and forth over price per unit he's a busy guy so hopefully i can get them completed and in my hands asap,,i want it to benefit us all,,and stussels i told you those people where nuts lol
-
Theres a company I cant remeber the name off had I looked them up not to long ago they can make gears for under 5 bucks in plastic and they would do other materials like aluminium and glass etc. I need a to bring them in and get them copied and send them the file. I m goin to look into them this summer when I get more money. They said they could make other stuff to like battery doors etc.
-
Poptart, let me know when you get the particulars settled and I'll send you the goods whenever I get your address. Man, sounds like I'm doing a drug deal. LOL
-
Lmao I'll keep you posted buddy!
-
still waiting on a responce fellas,,he we haven't spoke since the 1st and i cant get in contact with him after multiple email and phone msg's :(,,i hope my guy is ok.
-
Wow. I hope he's ok too.
-
Did anything ever happen with this?
-
Nope the Guy i had been in contact with just fell off the face of the earth, and stopped replying to me,,Idk what happend to him
-
Ok so I just got off the phone with a company out of Dallas not far from me that says they can make gears. I asked him ballpark on what it would be and he said a rough estimate would be $200-300 for the first gear but only $2-5 for each one after. The material would be delrin but I could have them made out of aluminum or steel for not much more per gear.
$200 for one gear would be crazy unless I can sell a bunch of them but he thinks there is a way to do them all cheaper if I bring him a hand full of different gears. I dont imagine I would get out of a set of bandit gears for less than 400 but if I wanted to make say 50 extra sets it would only cost about 500 more.
If he says I can have the first set made for $100 and the next set made for $20 each I will buy at least 10 more sets
Im gonna go by on monday and drop some examples off and we will see what he says. If I can get them reasonable would anybody want gears?
-
If I can get them reasonable would anybody want gears?
I would think a person would happily pay $30-40 to fix there broken bandit or hopper.
-
I would be in for a couple at that price since my Guy fell off the face of the earth lol
-
I need to pull apart a few different axles and drop the gears off to the guy this week. He says He can probably do them on saturdays but might take a few weekends. If all goes well the first few sets will cost more due to it costing me several hundred for the first set but once i pay them off ill be able to sell gear sets much cheaper. It wont be about making money for me, i just dont wanna be out a ton of money for gears sets. Im gonna make all the different sets I can and we'll see where it goes.
-
I found a more reliable guy who is making me wheel adapters for the 1:6 hummer right now to run 2.2 hobby wheels and after I get them in I am sending him tyco and radio shack gears to replicate. He is about positive he can make them and im ready to finally have a set so I can modify a bandit. I will update as soon as the gears are being machined
-
when you got them let know how much
-
He is making the hubs right now and said they will be done Monday. After I am going to send him bandit gears but I'm tossing up whether to send the differential version or locked. Locked version is less gears but diff version will be much better for high speed hobby modded cars.
Will most likely send the bandit diff style gears and the wild thing solid style gears. If all goes well I am going to have him make loads of sets. I will test them all on my cars until they are the perfect dimensions before they go up for sale.

tyco bandit king- Did you ever get any gears? I need the hi-lo gear for a Heads up turbo Hoppper. Can you help me?
