Title: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: TylerChuit on August 29, 2009, 23:04:06
During the course of running a guild in World of Warcraft, I have invested in a Ventrilo server.  Ventrilo is an online voice-chat service like Team Speak and others.  My server can accomodate up to 35 people at one time, in order to cover those larger raids. :)

I was thinking it might be nice to put it to use for our purposes to do some online gaming like Brettspielwelt, or something while being able to voice chat.  This might be nice to look forward to once or twice a week.  Something we can do for a couple hours in an evening without you guys having to be away from your families.  That way, if there's something to take care of, you can go "afk" to deal with it, then come back.

Also, if you have friends that you'd like to invite to join us, like your Cali friends, Charles, or my friend from Atlanta, we can get some larger groups going.

What do you guys think?  If you're interested, we can discuss some days and times that would be good for everyone involved, and I can send you the vent info.

I like the concept!

Alright, so what times/evening(s) sound good for you?

I'd also like to throw in www.eyeplaygames.com (http://www.eyeplaygames.com) as an online resource for getting our Robo Rally fix.

The Robo Rally one sounds cool to me.

How about the alternating Wednesdays during weeks that we don't have other events? Later in the evening is better for me, but I'm sure that other people would rather have something earlier.

Okiedoke...  Next Wednesday around 8pm, I'll start a game and invite everyone who comments on this thread after this point with a note saying that they've signed up to the eyeplaygames.com site.  Make sure to give your robot's name as well.

I'll put the vent info on the in-game chat window of the first game.

So before next Wednesday, make sure you have downloaded Ventrilo (the client it's free), and make sure you have set up an account on eyeplaygames (also free).

See you there.

I'll be there!

I'll do my best to be there. Wednesdays are going to start getting busy due to the new programming on TV. 8pm should be manageable.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers

Okay... since no one actually replied back with the name of their robot, can I assume zero interest? ???

I created a game, and tried inviting people based on their Dragons Hobbies names, and Wyldwing was the only one I was able to successfully find.  However, since he never told me for sure, I'm not positive that the Wyldwing on the game site is actually Charles.

Just saying, "Yes, I'll be there" doesn't do any good.  If you want to do one of these, then I NEED your robot name  or I can't invite you.

And given people's schedules, I think that trying to get everyone on at the same time is a fools errand... so let's just try doing it the way that the site intended and just check in and play when you're able.

Sorry, I hadn't replied before with my name. I'm pretty sure that dragon76n was my username and I'm trying to get my password reset now.

Good point about the schedules though. I'm going to try to be online tomorrow evening around 8PM.

Update: I just got an email back from the administration at eyeplaygames.com. Apparently my account has been inactive too long or something and has been suspended. I'm trying to get it reactivated.

As I mentioned in another thread, I have a mandatory office dinner tonight.

Honestly, though...even after tonight I have too many things taking up my time.  As we're doing every other Wednesday get togethers, I don't want to take away more time from the family.

And I do like our every other Wednesdays...so count me out for the online get togethers.  :(  But if it keeps our in-person get togethers going...I'm all for it.

Ok, exactly why I'm saying don't worry about trying to do it at any one time... this works like Dragon's Conquest game.  All you have to do is check on it once a day, 5 minutes tops.  Forget about Wednesdays.

I'm still waiting on my account to be reactivated. I was thinking that it was more like Bretspeilwelt too, but it has been quite a while since I've been on there and I didn't really look around much recently.

I'm signed up.
robot name= tampamac

I've completed the first two training missions. I feel like I'm ready to give it a go.

Have you tried making a second account?
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: Dragon on October 01, 2009, 15:24:08
I was thinking about that, but their website says "Only one account is allowed per person. "  I don't want to create another account and get both of them permanently locked.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: TylerChuit on October 02, 2009, 14:50:57
That's to prevent one person from controlling multiple robots in one game and using them to block other players or stay virtual by stacking them.  If you're other account is locked, and they aren't bothering to unlock it, I can't see that they'd have a problem with you making a new one.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: TylerChuit on October 05, 2009, 23:41:00
Okay, I've created the first game with myself, Wyldwing and Mac.  We can create a second one once Dragon gets his account problems resolved.

I chose a fairly easy one to start with.  No thrusters or spacial objects not in the board game version.  Enjoy! ;D

I've sent one more email to the admin of eyeplaygames.com to try to get my old account reset. If I don't get something in the next couple days I guess I'll just have to come up with a new identity.

There is an FBI office in St. Pete. I bet they could help set up a new identity for you. You should give them a call.

NOT. :P
Title: Robo Runner - Dragon's Hobbies Game 001
Post by: TylerChuit on October 11, 2009, 05:20:44
Wylders, is there a holdup with starting the game?

http://www.eyeplaygames.com/roborunner/games/305494/P0/ (http://www.eyeplaygames.com/roborunner/games/305494/P0/)

You are Wyldwing on the EyePlay site, right?  I never did get a response about the actual name of your robot.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: Wyldwing on October 13, 2009, 06:39:13
Guys...you are just going to have to play without me.

Can't fit it into my schedule (obviously).  10/15 deadline is breathing down my neck and has been for two weeks...

The show must go on...

Sorry.  We do need to discuss what we're doing with Saw next week...

Are we done there? I'm sure TylerChuit is going to win this last race, but I was just curious if we're going to finish.

I guess we are.  Killed by lack of interest...
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: Dragon on November 13, 2009, 16:21:58
Yep. Well... I'd be interested in playing again sometime, if there was at least one other interested person since Robo Rally for only 2 players doesn't sound all that exciting. I definitely like that I can play it with very small amounts of time.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers

I will play.  I just need help getting started.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: Dragon on November 15, 2009, 12:11:38
Have you gone through the training missions yet? There are 10 of them. They are pretty quick, especially since it's just you against some "Scanner" bots. If you complete all 10 without deleting them from you will eventually run out of games that you can play, since you can only be in 10 at a time, so you'll have to delete them (Logout) in order to get into anything after that.

Sorry I took so long, I was pre-occupied with Dragon Age.
I took my turn so we can finish the last game.

That should do it.  I got the move 2, so I can't see how you guys could knock me out of the IP.  I've found an online version of Formula De... any takers?

Yep.  Maybe if Dragon is able to make it tomorrow night, we can play a quick lap.

No, sorry, still unable to make it on Wednesdays. My wife has Weight Watchers meetings that she goes to on Wednesday nights. Also this week is throwing lots of curve balls, so even if my wife didn't go to the WW meeting this week I still can't imagine that I'd have time right now. I just got home from the dentist office with the kids after helping out a client on some urgent issues this morning. This is the second day in a row already this week that I've had almost no study time during the day.

Study time, understood.
Is there a website for the Formula de game?
I'm definitely interested.

Ok. It's a good reminder of a feature that I want for the SY game though. I definitely like to have email reminders, especially for sites that I haven't been visiting on a regular basis.

I still think email notifications would be a nice feature for RoboRunner.
Title: Re: Web-Based Boardgaming Get-Togethers
Post by: TylerChuit on April 16, 2010, 20:26:26
Well, if it helps, think of the "My Room" page as a secondary e-mail account that ONLY receives e-mail about then it's your turn. ;)

For most people on Eyeplay, an e-mail feature would be a bit obnoxious, since their inbox would quickly fill, and it's easier just to check the actual site.

You could always try joining more sessions, so checking would make more sense for you.  Sometimes it amazes me how much I have to coax you gamers into actually playing games.

Sir Dragon.  If you've given up on the Robo Runner games, let me know.  One of them is one move from being won by somebody, and they're just waiting for your input.

Sorry... lots of things going on, finals, Beth's mom sick, end of month stuff to do, and I completely forgot about this. I'm getting on there now.
