Post by: Wyldwing on November 30, 2009, 17:44:55
Not only can I game a day during this time...I am going to bring someone new into the mix!!!  Someone...female...

You will like her...she has a great personality and loves games.

Does the 27th work for everyone?

The 27th sounds reasonable to me.

Let me see if that works for my "mystery guest".

By the way...here is an excerpt from the "mystery guest's" last e-mail to me.

"YOU PLAY SETTLERS OF CATAN!!! Lol I own the expansion pack!! The rest of the games I don't know. But I LOVE new games. I live in the St. Pete area right new the Howard Franklin bridge. I cannot believe there is a website dedicated to our addiction! Please set up a time in December, that would be so much fun! I will do my homework and research all the games you listed just to be prepared =) I'm really excited. I do not get to play board games enough."

Have I peaked some interest?

Cool. How did you meet this mystery guest?

I met her on Jury Duty!!!  Can you believe that she and I did crossword puzzles together and I never once thought about bringing in a game?  I didn't find out until AFTERWARDS that she was a gamer too!!

I look forward to the day, however, not knowing what my future holds, I can only tenatively say I'll make it.

Has a location been decided on yet?
I'm going to assume it's another 12 hour event, 9am to 9pm, give or take?

That's what I'm envisioning.   I can host.  I like that and Wendy likes knowing where I am, and she knows that she and the kids need to be scarce!!   :D

That sounds fine with me. I haven't talked with my wife about it yet, but I can't imagine that being a big problem for me to attend.

Dragon...just remember it's starts at 9 IN THE MORNING!!!

And bad news from the Mystery Guest...here is her latest e-mail...   :-[

Of course you can call me Ali!! Sorry I am really slacking on my email lately. I am usually much better about responding... Now why did you have to pick the 27th???!! I get back from a ski trip on the 28th........ AG so unfair!! I really want to learn how to power grid... or michigan... or any of the other crazy sound games that you mentioned. How often do you guys play games... Please don't say like every other month because if I have to wait a long time for game night...... well lets just say there might be tears.

I mentioned the possibility of a Mid-January to kind of kick off busy-season...we'll see if she can attend that one!!

Have you told her about your unavailability in the coming months?  ::)

Gosh, if she has to wait until after April 15th, she may become a stalker.    ;D

I'm asking ALI what Sunday in January might work.  Nathaniel...can you commit to a Sunday in early January so we can include Ali in our first all day game day of 2010???

Chris, I believe you're fairly flexible...and most of us could be...Nathaniel and I seem to be the problem children when it comes to scheduling...

My class schedule would permit another event early in January, but two 12-hour game days that close together might be a bit tough to get a wife's approval for any man. I'll talk with Beth about it though.

From what was discussed last night at Unnamable's, both of us have pretty open schedules.

Yeah, our fearless leader is definately the bottleneck to our gaming experience. ;)

Sorry guys. I'm almost done with class this semester. Any plans for doing something next week? Unfortunately, next semester I have night classes two - three nights each week, so that is going to shut out most week days for me completely. (I couldn't get anything else with the classes that I need.) Fortunately, half of my classes are programming classes, which is something that enjoy and hopefully will be able to get those done quicker to allow for more opportunities for at least a little more gaming. Since the rest of my week will be locked into a schedule that I can't modify, I'm going to try to get Tuesday nights freed up.

In fairness, my above statement tends to become untrue come tax season...

And to the question of next week, we talked last night about maybe doing something on... was it Thursday the 17th?

Ali says that any Sunday in Jan works but for the 17th.

Nathaniel...any ideas? ???

After complete silence for what was long enough for her to forget that I'd even asked a question about next week, I reminded my wife that I had just asked her about going out on Thursday night. More silence followed, then my wife finally, hesitantly said, "Ok. I guess."

I then mentioned the potential event for January, but that was followed by more silence. Then she said, "Why do you guys have to plan stuff so far ahead?" I told her that people like to make plans, and some people even need to make plans. Despite the explanation, I only got more silence and then she changed the subject. I haven't gotten any answer about January yet. My best guess is that January 10th will be the best day to attempt something.

At Unamable's house we had mentioned trying to get together every other Friday. Since two weeks from now is Christmas we had decided on next Friday as a starting point.
I am perfectly okay with Thursday instead.
I know with Christmas and New Years taking two Friday's in a row, we'd have to probably go three weeks after this coming session.
So, it looks like a meeting on Thursday or Friday 12/17 or 12/18,
followed by a potential meeting on Friday after New Years, 1/8/10,
with a major meeting on that Sunday, 1/10/10.

If someone can post this on the calendar, awesome.

Mac

Hey guys, just as a reminder, I'll have Tuesdays cleared for potential gaming. It's the only evening other than Sunday that I'll be able to plan for throughout the next semester.

By the way, Mac, you should be able to add events to the calendar by clicking on the date. If you can't do that, let me know and I'll check the settings.

Do we want to try an "every other Tuesday" thing...since that works for Nathaniel?  I go workout on Tuesdays...but I can see if I can move that to another day if that works for everyone else...

The two Chris's and myself were thinking of doing the every other Friday thing. It will be Thursday this week. I am available on Tuesdays.
I say that if we can all get together every other week, let's make it happen.

Thanks for working with me for gaming on Tuesdays. If you guys want to alternate on weeks, that's fine and totally understandable. I don't want to cut down on your potential for gaming.

I personally have the time available. I think if everyone chimes in, maybe Tuesday is a reasonable day to get all five of us together every couple of weeks or so.

I think we have a couple of venues availabe at any given time. If we rotate it around nobody will feel left out, or overburdened. The last thing we want is someone to feel left out or abused by the 'game-aholics' coming to visit too often.

Speaking for myself, I look forward to making it happen, every other Tuesday, Friday, Thursday, whatever. And then we throw in an all day event every couple of months or so.

Awesome.

I feel like perhaps I was being derogatorized by the term "game-aholics".  :'(

Maybe you've stumbled on my real reason for the Funagain order, since I've always been a firm believer of "don't get high on your own supply." ;D

Don't worry Chris, I don't think that term was talking about anyone specific. This is not game-aholics anonymous here. We aren't trying to stop anyone from playing.

I am a freaking game-o-holic and I don't plan on taking a 12 step course to stop it either.  May this affliction continue until death and if possible even after.

Did we decide on a day?  Is it every other Tuesday?  Which Tuesday is next?

We are planning on meeting tomorrow. Still deciding on a venue.

I forgot that Tuesdays are busy days for me at work, sometimes keeping me at work until 7pm or later. That's what I get for taking two tuesdays off in a row.

I'll do my best to make all the meetings in a timely manner, however some days may not be good for me.

I'm in the process of taking my name off the list for staying every tuesday and going to the more popular once a month required late night. I joined up for every Tuesday when they were paying OT, now they are going to send us home early on Wednesday to make sure we don't get any OT. I prefer to work a regular work week, not 12 hours on Tuesday and 5 on Wednesday. No thanks.

Hey Mac, I couldn't remember if you were still planning on going to Game Day in Clearwater tomorrow or not. In addition to game considerations, Chris and I were considering seeing Avatar tomorrow evening but the last show that we'd probably be able to see would be the 7PM show, so if we went we'd have to cut Game Day short. Charles is going to see Avatar again today, so he probably won't be interested in seeing it again tomorrow night. Are we riding to Clearwater together? If you're still planning on going and we're riding together, knowing that you've already seen Avatar, I'm assuming that you won't want to see it again.

That was very cool playing again with you guys.

Let's see... Pandemic, Bang!, Cosmic Encounter, DOMINION, Snow Tails and Agricola. All great games!

It was great finally beating Pandemic! I enjoyed playing Bang! again, especially since it had been so long since I had played it before. Even though I wasn't on the winning team, it was a good game! I'm also definitely glad you guys enjoyed the new version of Cosmic Encounter! Playing Snow Tails again was cool, very challenging with that tight pass to get through, and of course it felt great to win! Agricola was also very challenging, as usual. It was quite different playing with both the Moors and with the "Family Game" mode (without Minor Improvements and Occupations). Another close game that I was very surprised to win. I thought for sure that Mac had us beat with all those Victory Points for Major Improvements.

I really enjoyed the day and look forward to our next event!

I had a great time playing on the 27th.
I'd like to say sorry to TylerChuit for blocking him in the Snow Tails game. I totally missed that there was a wager going on for that game. In the rearview, I would have chosen differently if I had realized that there was more than just a game involved. I'm also sorry for cutting in front of Kamie later in the same game.
I have a much better grasp of Agricola now, I think I'm ready to actually compete the next time we play. Dominion was way cool, I look forward to giving it another go. I'm glad we were actually able to win at Pandemic, I was beginning to wonder if it was possible. I think we got lucky with TylerChuit drawing some very good cards and completing the last disease in a timely manner. I really liked the game Bang!, probably because it was the only one I won. Either way, it was cool meeting Don and his family, hopefully they'll be around to game sometime in the future.

Thanks for hosting, Wyldwing.

Yeah, Dan and Jamie are cool. I was disappointed when they said that they had to leave. I've enjoyed playing games with both of them in the past.

And yes, I enjoyed Dominion too, even though I couldn't seem to remember it when I was writing my previous post.

You remembered it...it's right there in your post...??   ;D

Anyway, guys I had a BLAST...got a little tense there for a few moments, but it didn't get out of hand.

I loved pretty much all the games we played, athough, I have to admit, I was really shocked that Agricola took so LOOOOOONG.  I didn't think it was that long of a game.  I guess I've never played it with that many players...It was fun, but I generally hit a 2 hour point and wish I was playing something else.

The new Cosmic Encounter is a huge improvement.  I liked it a lot.

And playing Bang! was totally cool.  What an ending...as I was shot and lay there bleeding on the ground, the renegade standing above me laughing at my demise, I couldn't help but think..."but...I had a miss card...nooooo"

Looking forward to the first game day of 2010!! I can't say I want to play Starcraft if it's one of those "epic" games that takes hours and hours.  I'm just not that into LONG games.  So perhaps you guys could play that at an event that I don't attend.  During busy season you will have many opportunties to exclude me, unfortunately.

Hmm... Now that I think about it. I don't remember writing any of that stuff. Where is my post?

StarCraft takes about 3-4 hours to play.
