Liar's Dice
« on: January 30, 2022, 12:57:04 »
Yesterday, we played Liar's Dice, which is also known as Perudo, Dudo, and other names. In this dice game, players roll dice and keep them hidden from everyone else, while taking guess at how many dice have a certain value on the table, counting everyone's dice, not just the ones that the player can see. Around the table, each player must make an increasingly higher bid, or challenge the previous player's bid. The game is strategic in bidding, which can also involve bluffing, similar to how a game of Poker would have players trying to guess which players are stating a certain value because they can see them or simply because the odds are in their favor that certain values exist somewhere on the table based on how other players are bidding.

The game common enough and simple enough that as long as you have enough dice, which would be 5 dice for each player. You don't need anything more to play. On https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dudo you can even read the game play, which includes the variant that we play where people loose the difference between the bid and the actual number of dice during a challenge.

We played the game twice yesterday started the first game with Beth, followed by Isaac, me, Janai, and Sean. Sean was the first to be eliminated, loosing 5 dice from a challenge in the first round. He hadn't realized quite how much there was to loose at that point. Eventually it got down to me and Isaac, but Isaac prevailed. In the second game, Grace joined us, between Sean and Beth. I believe Beth was the first to be eliminated in that game. I held on getting to the top 3 with Sean and Isaac, but once again, Isaac prevailed, only loosing 1 die through two games.

Liar's Dice is definitely a fun and quick game, and when looking for games that can fit into a 30-minute window, this would probably hit the table often.
"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)
