Knock-Off Bandit's
« on: February 20, 2009, 20:38:09 »
So I was at the local Hobby store the other day, and saw a "Tamiya quick drive" Truck sitting on the self for $99. The closer I looked the more it looked like a copy of the Tyco Baja Bandit. Same single A-Arm's in the front, same tub chassis, same solid axle 2 speed gear box, same 280 motor and also used a 9.6 (not normal for tamiya). But the electronic's seemed to be better (digital proportional). I think even the tires looked like the Baja Bandits (but I could be wrong, not shown in picture).
I found this on there web site:
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=46033
This one is called "Land Zephyr" Item 46033.

Found one on ebay to:

And if you youtube "land zephyr" there is a video of one, has the same large pitch straight cut gear sound lol.

Anyways, if by any chance some one here has one, I'd like to see it side by side with the real Bandit.

Here's a better pic at the bottom of the page.

Here you can see the back of the gear box (different model but same tranny) It has 2 speed's just like the Tyco.

There's even a video of the buggies at the bottom of this page http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/46029bajaking/index.htm
Need to do the "save target as"

Speaking of knock offs, I think I saw a New Bright a few years back that looked a lot like a bandit, any one have any of those?

Interesting. I don't see the resemblance with the Tyco Bandit though.
"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)

Did you look at the gear box picture? Looks like it came out of the same mold as the Tyco's!
