Yesterday I went to visit my friend Bob before he leaves for Virginia. He spent some time in Florida but apparently he wasn't happy here so he's decided to move back where he has more friends. I wish that I would have had more time to hang out with him because he seemed like a cool guy. Thinking about it, he is similar to two of my other close friends - he is a Star Wars fan, really interested in theater/drama, but he also seems to have a strong interest in games. After getting some pancakes at a local diner, we played a few board games before I had to leave for birth classes. Clash Of The Lightsabers, Cathedral, and Ultimate Stratego were what I had brought, and it turned out that's all we had time for. Hopefully he'll keep in touch after his move back to VA.
This weekend we got two more foster kids. E**** and I**** will be staying with us for a few days. Beth's mom has been a big help and if it weren't for her we really wouldn't be able to handle having so many kids. We bought a mattress for our toddler bed, and a playpen/crib in preparation. We would need those eventually for our own kids anyway.
Beth gave me one birthday present already. I saw a Sound Blaster MP3+ USB System at Wal-Mart on Friday while we were picking up the beds for the kids. I was talking to Beth about the how I had been wanting to convert some old things from cassettes over to the computer, such as recordings of me pretending to do some kind of radio shows as a kid, or when I was playing guitar during my teens, or when I was in a band called Cerebral while in the Marines. On top of that, I'd finally be able to hook up my computer to the stereo or other speaker system. Anyway, Beth decided to buy it for me on the spot, rather than make a surprise of it, because she thought that she wouldn't remember what I wanted or wouldn't find it again. I hope that I can make it worth having.
Before I left for work today another long-distance-friend called me. Jason (now known as Gel-Tall on my Friends & Foes web page) wanted to let me know that they still haven't gotten Internet connection but hopefully will soon. It took a while to get settled into their new place in the Boston area but Jason says that he has already found one gamer there. I wonder if Jason and Bob would be interested in playing a Star Wars RPG via message board.
While I was talking to my friend Dave (Cinemax) about games we had and played with as kids, I remembered a little Pocket Bowling game that I had. I couldn't remember the name of the company that made it. Then Dave mentioned a wind-up bowling game that he had which was made by Tomy. I decided to try to look up the Pocket Bowling, thinking that Tomy might have also made the pocket games that I played with. I eventually found this website: http://www.masters.me.uk/pocketeers/completelist-pocketgames.htm which gives a list of 70 different games. I found several games that I had as a kid. It's so cool to be able to find stuff that I played with as a child, especially since I hadn't thought about those games for years.
Dave gave me a hint that I'll be getting BattleBall for my birthday. He had asked if I was going to be talking to Beth again tonight, but by that time Beth had already gone to bed. When I asked if he had something that he needed me to tell her, he was hesitant at first but finally said "Just tell her not to buy BattleBall for you." Um... ok Dave. Well, that's one less game for me to barrage Beth with hints about. ;)
I recently downloaded the new Mozilla Firebird browser. I tried out Mozilla a year or two ago, but didn't really like it then. I didn't like the way it looked mainly. Now, Mozilla Firebird has made some improvements which have caught my interest so I'm using it on a trial basis right now. One thing that I really like about it is that there is a built-in pop-up blocker. I hated that I'd have to run a separate program to block pop-ups, but now it's convienently in the browser. I have noticed that it doesn't read HTML/CSS the same way as Internet Explorer so I've also been using Firebird to check the recoding of my site. Since Firebird could put some pressure onto IE, I'd like to have my site look right in either one. I'm still trying to get the HTML/CSS combination correct before making anymore big changes.
Today we started ripping up more carpet. We are eventually going to put down some wood-tiles, which Beth bought a few weeks ago. I'm not really looking forward to doing it, but Beth is really excited. I'm sure that once it is all done, it will be worth the time and effort.
I've been craving pepperoni for quite a while now. It seems like it's been a year since I've had a pepperoni pizza, but I know it hasn't been quite that long. I finally got out shopping and picked up some turkey pepperoni, so I had my own version of an Italian-style sandwich before going to bed and Beth made pizza for me to take to work. I'm glad that Hormel noticed that not everyone wants to eat pork, but some of us still like the taste.
