Yesterday my mother-in-law stressed us out. Beth's mom had taken the car to go out shopping for a short time - promising to be back soon. We had to be at the hospital for our orientation visit at 18:00 so we were expecting Beth's mom to be back to our house to watch the baby at least by 17:30. Well… that didn't happen. Of course, she doesn't have a pager or cell phone and she doesn't bother to call us at home. By the time we had to leave we were quite upset because we had to put the car seat into the pickup and I had to ride in the back on the way to the hospital. Also, I had planned to leave from the hospital to go directly to work, but since we all had to ride together that obviously couldn't happen.
After we got back from orientation we expected Beth's mom to at least be there by then, but again no. This time we were really concerned. We drove to the store where she said she was going - she was not there; We drove to another nearby shopping center - she was not there; Finally we drove home to check our answering machine. Concerned that we still didn't have any messages from her, we decided it was time to make some phone calls - first to the nearby hospitals and next to the police. Each call gave us no information. Beth then sent me to Wal-Mart where I finally found Beth's mom strolling casually through the store. I just flipped - "You're making me late for work!" Her response didn't help the matter but since I had completed my mission of tracking her down, it was now time for me to get to work.
It's not surprising to me, but Dave told me that he got an email offering a way to "spy on your friends". The trick was to send your "friend" a specific virtual post card and when they opened their card a special program would load in the background of their pc, allowing you to see what they are up to. With that in mind, I'd like all my friends to know that I won't be opening any more virtual cards now - that that I got many in the first place.
My truck is really in rough condition now. My brake pads need replaced, which I can do myself, but I'm even more concerned about recent problems with the engine or transmission. I've heard some rough sound when the engine is idling, like partially dry metal rubbing together. I'm not a mechanic, but I'm wondering about the transmission fluid. I can't remember if that's supposed to get changed occasionally or what. I just had the transmission worked on about a year ago though, so I hope it's not that same problem coming back.
Beth is done working now… at least for the remainder of the year. Friday was her last day. From now on she will be staying home, taking care of our little one(s). With our son due to be born in approximately 3 weeks, Beth is getting in that "nesting" mood.
On top of Friday being Beth's last day at work, it was also our last day of the Bradley Method Birth Classes. Two of the women from class had their babies already, on the same day even - just a week before the last class. We'll be having a reunion party in about 6 months so it will be interesting to meet up with these couples again to see how everyone is doing with their new babies.
Friday also started Yom Teruah. I'm still learning about the Jewish Holy Days, so I might be a little off here, but I think that over the next 10 days we are supposed to be forgiving those who have done wrong to us, not that we shouldn't any other time, but this is the time that it's expected. Rabbi said something along the lines of making it easier to ask forgiveness during this time because it's expected.
I've finally figured out another key element to getting my webpage design how I want it. I've been having some trouble with positioning for one of my headings, but it was only happening in Mozilla. Since I've started using the Mozilla Firebird browser more recently I want my pages to look good in that and Internet Explorer. Now that I've got my problems corrected I just need to implement it into the pages that already exist on my website.
