Friday 1/2/2004 07:10 - Sick Start of 2004

I'm awake early this morning to get ready for a busy day of being a handyman. I'm not really a handyman, but we have a floor to finish up so we'll be heading to Lowe's Home Improvement store to buy a few things and then we'll be finishing the edge tiles in the dining area before putting down polyurethane.

We didn't do much to bring in the New Year. My brother and his girlfriend came over. We played Bang! and then watched Bruce Almighty. After that Tim had to leave because he didn't get any sleep yet from a 24 hour shift the night before and he had to work again in the morning. At midnight Beth and I were watching Fraiser then we quickly switched over to see Dick Clark in New York for the last 2 minutes of 2003 as the giant crystal ball dropped to bring in 2004. After the ball dropped we decided to go outside and watch the fireworks and wild people outside for a little while before going to bed.

Yesterday we worked on the floor for a while before I started feeling really sick. I think all the dust was getting to me. I went to bed sometime early afternoon. Beth brought me some chicken soup and tea and then I was out for most of the night. I got up around midnight as Beth had finished gluing down the edge tiles that I had cut earlier and we watched the news before going to bed.

We've been talking about what to do for New Years for the past week or two. I'm not quite sure yet what we're going to do but Beth's mom suggested that we have a party at our place. I'm not really sure that would be the best idea though, since I'm sure there would be a difference in opinion of what we should do for the party.

We are in the process of putting Parquet Wood Flooring in the dining area now. We moved the furniture and Beth put down the main flooring last week, so now we just have the edges to finish up. It really makes the house look nicer.

I'm almost done with my first real prototype of my new board game. I printed out the "Influence" cards on some card stock and now I'll just have to cut them out. I think I might print a back design before that though. Maybe next time my brother comes over we'll be able to get all the way through one game.

After such a depressing last week I've shifted into a much better mood. Maybe my "PMS" has passed. I worked Christmas Eve and Christmas Day so that my co-worker could have the time off. During that time I was able to think more about the board game that I'm designing. Even when I was at home my wife and mother-in-law gave me time to work on some things. I do still wish that I had more personal time to do stuff, but I realize that with a family I'm going to have to make some personal sacrifices in order to spend time with my family too. It is unfortunate that I forget where my priorities should be sometimes. I really want to be a good father for my children.

It was very cool to watch Scooter, my little inchworm, moving across the floor this week. She was really getting around. It's really neat to watch her grow. Sharkie is also growing quickly, even faster than Scooter is. He wiggles all around right now and sometimes it's seems tough to hold onto him. Sharkie eats a ton too! He also pees and craps a lot too - I suppose that's fitting. I guess that accounts for his growing so fast.

Well… I'm going to finish up my can of tuna and crackers while I work on my board game ideas for a little longer before I go to bed. Hopefully this game will get me one step closer to financial independence.
