I just want to write a quick journal entry before I begin studying for the night since we just finished Scooter’s first birthday party. I’m pretty beat already, as I’m sure the kids are, but I really need to study to keep up with my class schedule.
It isn’t Scooter’s actual birthday but today was the big day. We had several friends, along with their children, invited to the party. The party was starting at 14:00 and by 13:00 I had been to the store twice today to get last minute things. My sister-in-law had arrived around 10:00 to help out. My sister-in-law was such a big help – I don’t know how we would have pulled this off so well without her.
There were so many kids around that Scooter got worn out fast. I guess we should have done the cake first since she was falling asleep while eating food in her highchair after playing with the kids. My wife put Scooter to bed and the rest of us continued to chat while the kids entertained themselves and the adults. We even put up Stick The Tail On The Donkey (played with stickers instead of the pins that we used as kids) and the kids had fun playing with that for a prize of a second bag of goodies (which included candy, which might not have been so popular with the parents that had to deal with hyper kids later, but hey, it’s not as much as most kids eat around Halloween and Easter).
As the party slowed down we decided to wake up Scooter, hoping to get the cake scene before everyone had to leave. Unfortunately, Scooter just would not wake up fully so my wife suggested that we open presents to allow the guests to at least see something that they came for. It’s amazing how fast two hours went by. It was fun and exhausting at the same time.
