Last week was pretty miserable since we were all sick. I got sick on Saturday, my little “Sharkie” was sick for at least 3 days, and Beth was sick with one thing or another throughout the whole week - which was actually extended from the previous week. I even took 2 unscheduled sick days.
Amazingly, there was a day or so in the middle of my weekend when we were feeling pretty good. That day happened to be the day when everyone decided to visit – including the Kirby salesman and my “nephew” wanting to play the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game with me. (By the way, I don’t own any Yu-Gi-Oh! cards – he brought a couple decks of his own so that we could play together.) I didn’t mind “Wolfman” coming to visit, but having the Kirby guy over to “clean the room” for us really killed the day.
We already own a Kirby vacuum, actually it’s just a couple years old, and it’s definitely not ready for a $1000 replacement. A lady knocked on our door with the usual sales pitch that they are offering to clean a room for free which allows them to show off their new model of Kirby vacuum. About an hour later a guy comes back with his nice new Kirby and a bag of tricks. Of course, they never just go clean the room and come out and say, “Look! It’s all done!” They drag on forever just getting into the room by showing you each little part and how well it can pick up dirt and junk while using these little circle shaped pads to display all the dirt that they’ve collected. This of course takes much longer than if you just ran the vacuum because they can only go for a minute or two before the pad gets full. Anyway, after they lay all these dirty pads on the floor that they’ve come in to vacuum, they show you just how good their vacuums will work by… dumping and ENTIRE box of baking soda into your carpet… and then crushing it in before vacuuming up most of what they dumped in. Of course it looks like more, but you must remember that they are also getting up some of the dirt that they originally had come to clean up. Har har…
That reminds me of the magic trick where the magician asks for a watch and then after busting it into little bits, the magician makes it disappear rather than giving back the watch in it’s original condition.
