Tamiya QD Thunder Shot - repair
« on: January 13, 2014, 05:38:11 »
Hi all,

I've recently inherited a Thuder Shot, which although looks in ok condition doesn't work, no response at all.

I've opened it up and there's no visible damage to the internals, but then i don't know if its the car itself or the controller.

Having never worked on RC cars before I'm after an Idiots Guide to diagnosis and repair.
I assume the first thing I need to do is get a controller on the same band (ch4 with changeable crystals)? But not having any other spares it could be difficult!

any advice appreciated!

Tamiya qd has the same PWM (digital proportional) radio control standard as Nikko or Futaba but the steering and propulsion controls are changed. I own a Tamiya QD SuperSabre that has the same electronics as your RC car.

You can test the Tamiya QD remote control with a Nikko proportional digital car with the same frequency crystal.

The remote control has an L9362 encoder:

The car has an L9367 decoder:

In the "out" pin of L9362 encoder, you must have a signal like this (seen by a osciloscope):

I do not find the technical sheets of L9367 decoder but it should look like L9363:

Hi Korreka, I can't see any of the images that you've linked to, but I'm able to see the datasheets that you have linked to Google Drive. You could try uploading the photos as attachments to this forum.

"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)
