"Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again? ... OK, well, the button on the side. Is it glowing?... Yeah, you need to turn it on. Err, the button turns it on. Yeah, you do know how a button works, don't you? No, not on clothes." - Roy (The IT Crowd)

free positon pencil clip by 86world

I just wanted to be able to attach a pencil to the edge of a notebook, something like a standard clip on an ink pen. This worked perfectly.

If you have an image that you want to turn into an STL model, try out this online converter:

https://imagetostl.com/convert/file/png/to/stl

For example, here's a PNG file for PHSC that I was easily able to have converted to STL.

I found this fairly flat 3d model of an Iron Man helmet which I thought would be great to include on a lid for a box to put my Iron Man 2: Game Of War into - https://www.printables.com/en/model/516945-hueforge-iron-man-helmet/files

Also while looking for some useful models to base my box on, I found this wearable Iron Man helmet mode - https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-ironman-helmet-181399

Others to use with my box...

Fully 3D-printable wind-up car gift card - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3308710/files

This is one that I printed recently on my Artillery Sidewinder X2. It turned out well. I did need to adjust the wind key to print at 98% of the original size in order to get it to fit. I also needed to file the inside of the wheels where they connect to the axels. Aside from that, everything worked straight off printing the two cards.

Today I came across a site that had some interesting tips for being able to continue a 3d print that stopped. I haven't read through it all, but it looks helpful, so if there is ever a need to start halfway through a project, it might be worth checking out this page:

3D Printing Tech Tips: Recover a Failed Print

This solution can help you recover your print if it failed due to the following reasons:

  • Extruder jammed in the middle of a print
  • Power fluctuations caused the printer to restart
  • Extruder ran out of filament (assuming you do not have filament sensors installed)

Unfortunately, printing the Black Knight helmet failed half way through. I'm using the technique described on the previous page, but realized it probably needed to adjust the G28 (the command to home all axes). I found another site that explained it: https://all3dp.com/2/g28-g-code-homing/
Now, am I able to get this to successfully return to a print job that was nearly 2 days in?

I'm going to try to print this case for my Raspberry Pi B+: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5190138, but I'm going to use a clear green filament and gold for the logo - Legend of Zelda colors.  :D

Here are some neat looking alternatives that I've found:

The Raspberry Pi Case turned out nicely using the Clear Green and Gold filament, colors inspired by The Legend Of Zelda games. The logo piece didn't fit snuggly into the lid though, so I did need to glue it. Also, that piece isn't the same thickness as the top, so it will either be raised on the box, which is how I chose to do it, or it will take more space inside. I was concerned that the box wouldn't close tightly if I had it inside more because of how close the opening is to the network port.  The top and bottom fit tightly enough together though that I've gone without screws for now. It doesn't snap together, but it holds well just against the RPI itself.

Since the wind-up car turned out so well... I was thinking this 5-speed gear box would be a neat one to put together.

I found some great tips in this video by Maker's Muse about making custom attachment pieces with the 3d printer. https://youtu.be/uJxv5qARXV4?si=TzVd8F_E_xT3HXL8
