i had a chance to get one minus controller a few months ago and stupidly i talked myself out of it. since i can easily find a nikko digital proportional controller on ebay or even use a hobby controller but for nostalgic purposes i would rather have the square nikko tx i should have just gotten it since it only went for like 20 dollars.

finally a raider on its way! so happy to finally get one. Saw the listing for one for 77.77 starting bid on ebay and then half an hour later saw one for starting bid $5 so i e-mailed the guy and talked him into putting a buy it now for 35. being untested due to the inaccessability of a battery pack i thought that was more than generous for one in that condition and he revised it and put a buy it now so i bought it. could have probably saved some money and waited for the auction to play out naturally but i'd rather pay 20 more and get it a week earlier, plus guaranteeing me i will get it. I still can't believe i got that new rs wild cougar for 30 off ebay but i guess i can thank my mom for not buying me tycos. those tycos can get up there and I would know since i've bought a few and sold them on ebay. super excited to be getting my old cars back together!

Hell yeah man, i saw those on ebay and was hoping youd win one.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-05 13:53:05 UTC
I'm tempted to put the bid on the one but all said and done that's 97.77 and I see a rusted screw and the thing is dirty. How much did you pay for your nib one? I know due to the condition the one on ebay is not going to be in a collection but I want ones to run and it looks like its in the condition of my old one before I threw it away except for the one on ebay has tire spikes left. I used to wrap rubber bands around the tires for traction of my old one.

anyone have this nikko in their collection?
Too new for me.
But it does look to be built on the same chassis Nikko/radio shack used on a lot of the 9.6 buggies. I do have a few of em.
Not as powerful as the 540/7.2 nikko stuff, but still high quality.
I did have a Nikko with tracks when I was a kid. There are awsome, fast and powerful. I remeber driving it on top of the snow, would fly!
by Viper GTS on 2012-09-05 18:44:37 UTC
There were alot of 9.6v buggies that were slow back in the day but these and the flashbacks were actually some of nikkos fastest rc cars. Im about positive the flashback is faster than the iron eagle.
One of the rare but really fast trucks is the nikko road thunder. It was the same as the tacoma with a lexan body but it had a 2 speed and better motor. I think it was one of their very fastest cars or trucks. Im gonna radar it too
by czstycor/c on 2012-09-05 23:23:02 UTC
so what is so great about this nikko exactly?
by Viper GTS on 2012-09-06 02:23:08 UTC
Its just that they are soo rare and anybody who had one or wanted one they are a big deal to. I remember one of my brothers friends had one when i was a kid and i remember it being really fast so i had to have one
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-06 16:23:39 UTC
It's a truck that my brother had that I took over when we were kids. It was pretty good on speed and was super tough and rhe best thing I remember was the range. I was able to drive it all the way to my rc buddy tommys house which was well past the 200-300 ft range. I'm glad they don't have the following of tyco cars because if anyone else wanted that truck as bad as I do the thing would go for more than I can afford.

Theres one on ebay right now...

Yup I'm the high bidder on that one. I also bought one that was listed about 20 minutes after that one with buy it now.. I wish the seller would have cleaned it up but none do but me. I just got a nikko brat off ebay and looked rough in the auction and when I got it but me and my wet rag made the thing look almost new. that thing is coming from Alaska so granted I win it I'm going to have to wait quite a while for it to get here.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-10 02:54:44 UTC
Didn't win it. If It popped up a month later I could have paid that much for it but I had 100 and it went for 81+20 shipping so missed it by a dollar. I noticed what looked like a crack in the control arm so I wasn't going to be paying that much for something that really looked like it was broken.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-11 00:29:24 UTC
body is beat up and every single screw on the thing is rusty but the tires cleaned up looking like new. wheelies like if it was new on carpet.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-11 00:31:54 UTC
may put same number frequency crystal in both and drag race them.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-13 11:55:45 UTC
this is why i didn't bid any higher for that other raider. looks like there is a crack in the control arm that was not memtioned in the description. I'm pretty sure i'm the only one who noticed and i noticed it after i put in an 80 dollar bid. good thing someone beat me with 81 so i could get out of it because with that crack i woul have paid maybe 40 for it.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-13 12:05:15 UTC
and here's mine
by Viper GTS on 2012-09-13 12:40:18 UTC
Youve got the body and wheels so thats most important. If you need control arms there are a lot different cars on that chassis. I think anything that uses that style of wheel is the same. If not super glue should get you by for a while
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-13 13:09:40 UTC
I think now my raider will be a shelf queen from now on and nothing left to search for so going to concentrate on building a fleet of Traxxas trucks. Every time I sell a truck I get kids and adults with a barrage of questions from newbies so I was thinking of holding kinda like a clinic that teaches you what needs to be known when picking out an rc plus let's then try it out so they don't get one and decide its not for them after going 250+ into it.
by jeffescortlx on 2012-09-13 22:56:13 UTC
Do the raiders normally go for around 100?
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-14 02:56:29 UTC
I have only seen 3 on ebay one that was untested with no radio that went for 20.50 and the one that was rtr that went for 81 and the one I got that was unntested with radio for 35. The one I got may not have went for that much but I wanted it sooner so I talked the seller into putting a buy it now for 35. I didn't care if it worked or not since I have a brat I was fully willing to gut in order to have the raider run but it runs fine as it is fortunately. If I ever find a new in box one I think I'm still willing to throw around 250 at it.

Damn bro thats bandit teritory!
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-14 19:38:57 UTC
It's a ton of fun. I wish ny wife would hold the camera so I can get better and longer footage. It's pretty fast but I remember it being faster but then again the last time I ran my brother's old one I was maybe 15 at the oldest before it completely stopped working. The eliminator and twin turbo hopper I had were faster hands down but I remember always getting smashed by my neighbors Harley truck and fx-4.
by Viper GTS on 2012-09-27 01:51:58 UTC
There are now 2 more raiders on ebay and one in the box. I keep seeing really rare cars on ebay like the new bright 4wd in box
by czstycor/c on 2012-09-27 19:22:38 UTC
post them then! haha
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-27 20:24:41 UTC
The one raider I may try to get for parts. As far as nostalgia or collecting the one was long ruined with all the stickers on it and the deans plugs. When I got mine it had to be original with no tampering at all. The one in box has been rolled a few times if u look closely at the pics plus the rear tires are going bare. As far as the jeep I just had to tell my wife how quickly I destroyed my old one and she doesn't want me to get it knowing that. There are indeed some rare stuff popping up right now. I still want a buddy l rattler though but not seeing one yet.
by friedchickenfuelsme on 2012-09-29 01:13:27 UTC
I'm not normally a person to have buyers remorse while being the highest bidder on something but I put a 40 dollar bid on that new bright jeep and was the highest bidder and was thinking oh man what did I do. I destroyed that jeep faster than my firestorm that got ran over by a car so I was so glad when I got beat out by a dollar. It would have been nice to have another childhood toy but not one that didn't hold up. Money I would rather put toward a parts raider to keep my baby running foreverĀ :P.

Dont sweat it, all you have to do is replace those shitty pot metal hubs with the later plastic 2wd hubs and the weakest link is fixed. Now that your older you know how to drive it hard without destroying it.
After a few simple mods ive done to mine i actually run it pretty hard and even on 11.1v i have yet to break anything. Ive jumped it off lots of curbs, ramped more than 3 feet of air 10+ times and the truck still looks really nice. Ive gotta say with minor work they are much more durable than other comparable trucks
