32GB microSD card!

by Dragon on 2010-03-24 02:35:10 UTC

PCMag.com posted the announcement of the first 32GB microSD card from SanDisk.  So I'm wondering now, could I just skip the hard drive in my PC? I have an old laptop with a junk harddrive. The computer won't even boot up if the harddrive is in, so I've pulled it out and just run Knoppix or something for the kids to play with... but how about a microSD card? I know it has slots for cards. Could I install and run an operating system from a microSD card on my laptop? I've got an old SD card around here somewhere. Maybe I'll try that someday. Maybe you've already tried this before, or know it won't work --- let me know.

What about access times?

A lot of new computers have the options to boot from USB devices, so I guess it depends how the card is plugged in.
