1/10 scale Tyco bandit in progress
by Tyco Bandit King on 2011-01-02 06:55:12 UTC
I have a few more project trucks to complete on my list but in the mean time I am working on making a 1/10 scale bandit truck and have most the parts to make one that will look very similar to the original but will be upgradeable and know no speed limit. I dont know about you guys, but I always wanted to see a bigger version of the bandit and since they never made one for us im gonna do it. Heres how I might do it and im still considering other chassis besides the vxl stampede:
These wheels are from a Traxxas nitro street and have a narrow front and wide rear, look similar to the bandit wheels and I can get them in chrome
I know a guy that can print off decals to match the bandit. As for the roll bar and front bumper I can make them

-what's the body from, I too had wanted to build a 1/10th bandit, but use a Tamiya Hornet chassis, then the suspension matches what the Bandit has.

Its a tamiya king cab body that I painted to look like a real Nissan pickup. Yeah the hornet chassis is a very good one to use for the conversion. I chose the stampede because the transmission is bullet proof and will take any power you can put to it.

-as far as tires go, I was thinking about Tamiya Hot Shot ones. The tread pattern is the same, it's like Tyco copied it from Tamiya!!! The rears would have to be made by cutting & widening, but that's not bad. Also, use 2.2"x2.0" rears, & 2.0"x1.0" frt. rims. I had this all figured out. As for me physically, I can't build this, I'm handicapped & stuck in bed, until I'm healed, but I hope your project goes well. The Tamiya KingCab is a much better looking KC than the Kyosho Double Dare lid I was thinking about, (it's whay I could find "new" on E-bay for that "some day" I can build.

this is AWESOME!!!!
fyi i saw a life size bandit. it was black, jack up, had the role bar in the bed, fog lights on the front, and its liecense plate read BANDIT.

Im still deciding which way I wanna go on the chassis because as it sits I have everything to build one at the moment with the exception of the paint for the body, the decals which just need to be printed and wheel/tire combos. All things I can easily get ahold of. I want some input from the other guys like me who would love to see a 1/10 scale bandit. What would yall like to see better for a replica of the bandit. Heres my top choices at the moment:
1 Traxxas VXL Stampede brushless
Red painted identical Tamiya King Cab Body
Nitro street front and rear wheels in chrome w/ hotshot tires
Hand made front + rear bumper and roll bar
+'s
The truck would be able to haul any amount of ass I would want it
Go anywhere capabilities for a 2wd
indestructive with bullet proof drive line and super easy to get parts for
-'s
Not quite as realistic of a chassis as it could be
2 Tamiya hornet or grass hopper
same body
same wheels
same bumpers
+'s
very similar chassis
can use a 380 motor if I go with the grasshopper to keep to scale
low center of gravity to keep the wheels on the ground
-'s
weak driveline
struggles in grass and off-road
harder to find parts for and not much aftermarket
It really just boils down to how scale I want it to look. I will definitely be using the truck and already have the stampede so right now its #1 and I can always go buy a hornet or grasshopper if I wanna get real close to scale

my in put. haha i think both would be sweet, but you could do one black, and the other red or!!!! the stampede you could paint like the 4x4 racing truck since it would be the off road one.

Ok, on the 4wd turbo racing pickup ive got a treat for you, give me 5 mins haha

This is my box art Nissan king cab truck, its basically a 1/10 4wd super racing pickup but 2wd and was made the year after "89"

Ok heres a bit further on the 1/10 scale bandit

This is a clear king cab body I have to paint more exact to the bandit and intead of painting the window trim then tinting the windows ill just paint them solid black. On the tail lights I will paint them a slightly different shade of red to be correct and on the headlights I might leave them open like the other to do led headlights. The fender flares will also be red to match the body

i like it with the lights in the bed better haha
by performerrpm on 2011-01-02 20:13:07 UTC
what are ya gonna do for the bumper, or how are ya gonna make it i should say
by czstycor/c on 2011-01-02 20:18:49 UTC
that will make it perfect and a true bandit
by Viper GTS on 2011-01-02 20:35:59 UTC
I will make the bumpers and roll bars by hand from aluminum tubing to match and they will be 2-3 peices each.
by czstycor/c on 2011-01-02 20:40:22 UTC
then it wont brake!! haha
by dragon on 2011-01-03 16:43:23 UTC
Those look awesome! No matter which way you go, I'm sure the truck is going to be cool.
